Surrogate Compensation & Benefits

If you’re considering becoming a surrogate, one of your first questions may be “How much do surrogates make?” It’s an important and valid question, because choosing to carry a child for someone else is a life-changing commitment, and you deserve to be recognized and supported for the gift of life.

At Worldwide Surrogacy Specialists, our compensation packages are designed to honor your time, physical efforts, and the emotional dedication it takes to become a surrogate. From base pay to thoughtful reimbursements and post-birth support, we’ve created one of the most detailed and enticing surrogate benefits packages in the surrogacy industry.

How Are Surrogates Paid?

Surrogates working with us begin receiving financial support early in the process, often before pregnancy is even confirmed. Once you complete your initial screening and are officially matched with intended parents, you’ll receive a sign-on bonus of $1,000. That’s just the beginning of a structured, transparent surrogacy payment plan that follows you throughout your pregnancy journey.

Following the signing of the legal surrogacy agreement and contract, a monthly allowance of $350 kicks in. This payment covers incidental expenses like travel to appointments, prenatal care costs, and other pregnancy-related needs. You’ll receive this allowance until four weeks after delivery, or earlier if your contract ends for any reason.

Then comes the base compensation, which typically ranges from $50,000 to $75,000+ for first-time surrogates. This amount is paid out in ten monthly installments, beginning once your pregnancy is medically confirmed via heartbeat. It’s worth noting that you can request your preferred base compensation during the contract phase, provided it aligns with standard industry ranges.

Surrogates are also reimbursed for lost wages, medical expenses, child care, and travel costs, along with additional payments for procedures like embryo transfers or C-sections.

Timeline of Payments

Understanding when you’ll get paid can be just as important as knowing how much. The surrogacy journey is divided into several phases, and compensation is delivered throughout to reflect the steps of the process.

The first payment (your $1,000 sign-on bonus) arrives after you’re officially matched with intended parents. From that point forward, you won’t need to worry about out-of-pocket expenses. Travel to and from fertility clinics, including airfare, hotel stays, transportation, and meals, is fully covered by the intended parents.

Once your legal contracts are signed, the monthly $350 allowance begins. This continues alongside milestone payments that coincide with each major event in your pregnancy journey. For example, you’ll receive $1,000 for every embryo transfer, plus compensation for lost wages during appointments and procedures.

When pregnancy is confirmed with a heartbeat, your base pay begins. Payments are issued monthly and continue into the second and third trimesters, along with reimbursements for any surrogacy-related childcare or household help your care provider recommends. After the birth, you’ll receive the final installment of your base compensation, plus bonuses for C-sections, carrying multiples, or pumping breast milk if that was agreed upon.

Finally, six weeks of lost wages after delivery are also covered, giving you time to heal and transition.

What’s Included in Surrogate Compensation?

Surrogacy compensation at Worldwide goes far beyond a base paycheck. It’s a full benefits package designed to support your well-being throughout the entire journey.

In addition to the base compensation ($55,000–$70,000+ for first-time surrogates), you’ll receive:

  • A maternity clothing stipend to keep you comfortable throughout your pregnancy
  • Surrogacy-friendly health insurance, fully paid for by the intended parents
  • A life insurance policy worth $750,000 to protect your family
  • Reimbursement for lost wages, including wages lost by your spouse, if needed
  • Childcare and housekeeping reimbursements if your doctor recommends bed rest
  • Bonuses for multiples or medically necessary procedures, like a C-section
